With the cleanest and widest beaches - as well as most hours of sunshine - in the Netherlands and a coast line that is 17 kilometres long, this is the perfect holiday destination. Admire the unique history in Sluis
In the historic town centre of Sluis, which is 15 minutes by car from the resort, you will find the only belfry in the Netherlands. This is an impressive building and the town’s mediaeval centrepiece. Visit the museum, which is entirely dedicated to the history of Sluis. Here you will learn about the famous Sluis-born Johan Hendrik van Dale, well-known for the Dutch Van Dale dictionaries. It also has two mini cinemas, several exhibitions, period rooms and the historic council chamber. Visit the tower and enjoy the views of the surroundings!
In Sluis you can also admire the old ramparts and town gates. The town has many shops and restaurants, and in the summer there are evening markets.
Enjoy a day out in attractive Cadzand
Cadzand is the most southerly seaside resort in the Netherlands; it has beautiful sand dunes. You can have a great day on the broad sandy beaches and look for fossils and shark’s teeth. Cadzand also has a number of outdoor terraces on the beach, along the promenade and in the village. This popular seaside village, which is only 8 minutes by car from our resort, also offers good shopping. Do you want to explore more of this beautiful area? A walk or bike ride through the dunes is highly recommended!

In Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, the region where Dormio Resort Nieuwvliet-Bad is situated, you can enjoy a total of 17 kilometres of beautiful beaches. The sandy beaches have been named the cleanest beaches in the Netherlands many times. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag 19 times so far. This international environmental distinction guarantees that the swimming water is of an excellent quality and the beach is kept clean.
Shop in “Petit Paris”: Knokke
Just across the border in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, 25 minutes by car from our resort, you will find one of the best-known seaside resorts in Belgium: Knokke. Because of the many boutiques, art galleries and restaurants, Knokke is sometimes referred to as “Petit Paris”. Take part in various water sports in Lakeside Paradise or learn more about the Battle of the Scheldt in the For Freedom Museum.
Enjoy an interactive day with the whole family at nature reserve Het Zwin
Het Zwin is an interactive nature park where the whole family can have a great day out. This park is about half an hour by car from our resort and is sometimes described as the international airport for birds. Follow the bird hide trail to get a good view of the birds, or visit the unique freshwater exhibition with shellfish, anemones and crabs and other crustaceans. You will come across different landscapes in Het Zwin, such as the mudflats that are submerged in seawater twice a day, making it a haven for rare saltwater plants like glasswort. Het Zwin also frequently has exhibitions, and you can enjoy the impressive views of the surroundings from the panorama tower.

The beach at Nieuwvliet-Bad is very wide and runs into the sea very gradually, making this beach very popular with families with young children. When the tide is out, a number of shallow pools are formed here, which are ideal for children to play. Perfect for a brilliant day on the beach with small children!

Find out more about the Flying Dutchman in Terneuzen
Follow the mystery of Captain Willem van der Decken in Terneuzen: the city of the Flying Dutchman! Here you will find all kinds of works of art and activities based on this ghost ship, like an escape room and the ship-spotting point. There is lots more to do in this port city, which is just over half an hour by car from the resort. Visit one of the many museums, enjoy a cruise along the Western Scheldt, go shopping or go skiing in the indoor ski run of SnowWorld.
Explore the unique natural habitat of De Verdronken Zwarte Polder
Are you interested in special flora and fauna? Make sure to visit De Verdronken Zwarte Polder during your stay. This 55-hectare nature reserve is only a 20-minute walk from our resort. Enjoy the different types of landscape, like the mudflats, the salt meadows and the dunes, and be surprised by all the beauty nature has to offer. Rare singing birds, like corn buntings and streaked fantail warblers, are frequently spotted here. You can also find rare plant varieties in this nature reserve, and if you are lucky, you will find fossils and shark’s teeth on the beach.
Did you know that...
... the name De Verdronken Zwarte Polder (The Drowned Black Polder) is based on a historic event? In 1623, the land of Zwarte Polder was reclaimed, but it was flooded in 1802. The area has never been entirely reclaimed since then, as is reflected in the name.

Bruges is the most popular and romantic destination for a city trip in Belgium. The city is visited by many tourists every year. In the beautiful city centre, which is just over half an hour by car from the resort, it seems as if time has come to a standstill. Here you will find many medieval winding streets, friendly outdoor terraces and beautiful canals, which are perfect for an enjoyable boat trip. The entire historic centre of Bruges is on the UNESCO world heritage list. Markt, with its impressive belfry, is definitely worth a visit. Go to the top of this 83-metre-tall ostentatious building and be surprised by the breathtaking views of the surroundings!
Enjoy the hospitality of Ghent
In Ghent, which is about an hour by car from the resort, you can enjoy good restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. The beautiful old city centre is also great for shopping and taking in the local culture. Make sure you also visit the impressive Gravensteen castle during your visit to this attractive city. Gravensteen is the only surviving moated mediaeval castle in Flanders, with an almost intact defence system. Step back in time and explore the 12th-century Castle of the Counts!
