Visit the picturesque town of Heimbach
Dormio Resort Eifeler Tor is situated in picturesque Heimbach in beautiful surroundings. This small town is definitely worth a visit during your stay. Visit Mariawald Abbey at lunch time and sample a delicious Trappist beer, the abbey’s own herbal liqueur, traditional pea soup and much more! Or admire Hengebach Castle, which was built around the year 1000. This old castle is situated in a beautiful location, on a 33-metre high slate rock along the Ruhr River; it belongs to one of the oldest strongholds in the Eifel. In Heimbach you will also find a power station built in Art Nouveau style which is still in use today: Kraftwerk Heimbach. Eifel National Park: a true paradise for hikers and cyclists
Are you a true nature lover? If so, the beautiful Eifel National Park and surrounding area is the perfect place for you! The best starting points for a visit to this nature reserve are the National Park Gates, where you will also find an information centre. National Park Gate Heimbach is only a 5-minute drive from our resort. This beautiful natural area has a number of fantastic hiking routes! Explore the beech and oak woods, the upland areas of the High Fens Nature Reserve, the sandstone rocks of the Teufelsschlucht (the Devil’s Gorge) or the wild landscape of split rocks of the Ferschweiler Plateau. Or cycle along one of the very well-made cycling paths, like the route along the rivers, which is perfect for the whole family!

Monschau is one of those picturesque towns you must see! The historic town centre has very old half-timbered houses with beautiful front walls. Along the Ruhr River in the town centre, there is a beautiful row of 17th-century half-timbered houses: the Rur Partie. Because of the pretty old town centre and its situation in this stunning area between the green hills of Eifel National Park and the Belgian Ardennes, Monschau is definitely worth a visit!

Visit a UNESCO world heritage site: the castles at Brühl
In an idyllic garden landscape in beautiful surroundings in Brühl you will find two 18th-century castles: Augustusburg and Falkenlust. These castles are among the earliest examples of Baroque and Rococo architecture in Germany. The two castles and the extensive park have been on the UNESCO world heritage list since 1984. Augustusburg Castle was the sumptuous residence of the prince-archbishops of Cologne. Falkenlust is a true hunting lodge full of symmetry; it was built to practise falconry. The surrounding Schlosspark is of historical importance because of its unique design with French and English influences. Definitely worth a visit during your holiday in the Eifel!

Are you a culture vulture or would you like to go shopping near Dormio Resort Eifeler Tor? Visit the small town of Düren! This town full of culture is only 40 minutes by car from our resort. The market square, with its small, local shops, is great for shopping. You can also go for a drink and something to eat in one of the cosy restaurants. Visit the exhibitions in the Leopold-Hoesch-Museum, which has a collection of Expressionist and Classical Modernist Art. Find out about the interesting history of Düren and the local area in the Stadtmuseum or go for a walk in the friendly Stadtpark or the Burgauer Wald.
