Adventurous visit to the salt mines of Hallstatt
Salt was already extracted from the middle bronze age in the mountains around Hallstatt. Salt was a valuable commodity at the time and was sometimes called the “white gold from Austria”. The salt mine is now open to visitors; here you can discover how salt was mined in the past. Dressed in overalls you go on a journey of discovery, back to the beginning of salt mining some 7,000 years ago. You will experience the history of the bronze age with the latest multimedia technology such as 3D projections, holograms and a cinema that is located 400 metres under the ground! Slide yourself down one of the slides that miners used to move underground in the early days and find out how fast you are going with the speedometer. The tour concludes with an exciting trip on the mine train.

You can choose from approximately 19 mountain bike trails that will unveil the most beautiful natural sites. You can choose from different distances. Most start from 35 kilometres.

Winter sports in Obertraun
Obertraun is an excellent destination for winter sports. Located in a beautiful valley on Austria's Hallstättersee, the village is surrounded by several ski resorts such as Krippenstein and Dachstein-West. Half the pistes in Obertraun are blue and are therefore very suitable for beginners. There are also red and black pistes for experienced skiers. An added advantage: there is a ski bus stop at Dormio Resort Obertraun. So you'll be on the slopes in no time!
Discover the impressive ice cave
Go on an adventure and discover the special ice cave in Dachstein The ice is formed by water seeping into the cave from the surrounding mountains. Inside, the cave is a stunning picture for young and old to enjoy. You will also find a large suspension bridge that you can walk across. Want to enjoy even more underground? Then also visit the adjacent Mammoth Cave. This cave system is a whopping 70 kilometres in length and one of the largest limestone caves in the world.
“Welterbeblick” Hallstatt Skywalk
Lake Hallstat is world famous. Check it out more thoroughly including the high Hallstatt mountains from above by visiting the Skywalk. The Skywalk can be found on Hallstatt’s salt mountain, immediately below the former defence tower, the "Rudolfsturm". The view of the UNESCO Hallstatt-Dachstein-Salzkammergut world heritage region is especially impressive from here! You can reach this beautiful viewpoint via cable car. Outside the winter season, you can also hike to the summit in about 90 minutes if you are an experienced hiker.

From Dormio Resort Obertraun, you will be at the Ausseerland golf club in only 15 minutes. You can enjoy the idyllic landscape in summer while playing golf with the majestic mountain tops in the background. As a guest of Dormio Resort Obertraun you receive a 10% discount on green fees. Are you looking for some adventure? Then visit the free natural toboggan run in Gosau during the winter months! The toboggan run contains several curves and runs through a beautiful forest. The toboggan run is 1.26 kilometres long and has a height difference of more than 200 metres. An exciting winter activity for both young and old!

Are you a true adrenaline-seeker? Then a visit to the Klettersteigcentrum Salzkammergut in Gosau is definitely a must! In summer, climb above the Gosausee lake with stunning views of the Dachstein and the glacier. Secured to the mountains, you will discover the impressive landscape on a challenging route. You will find 9 different routes with vary from very easy to currently the most difficult route in Europe! Children can also climb an easy via ferrata together with a qualified mountain guide.
